After Menopause- Is Life The Same Really
A number of changes take place during and after menopause. One of the changes is that you will stop having your monthly periods. You are only considered to be postmenopausal when you go for 12 consecutive months without having a period. If you have had your ovaries removed due to a medical condition, you are considered to have entered this phase. Although some cancer treatments such as chemotherapy can render one unable to have a period, some women still resume their monthly cycle after the treatment. In such a case, the woman will not be considered to be postmenopausal.
There are cases in which some cancer patients on chemotherapy go for 12 consecutive months without having a period. When this happens, doctors will still not consider these patients to be postmenopausal. They will have to first check the levels of the follicle stimulating hormone or FSH before they can make such a conclusion.
If you are undergoing hormone replacement therapy or HRT you are not technically post-menopausal because after the therapy you may still experience menopausal symptoms. You are only considered to be postmenopausal when you stop experiencing symptoms such as Hot Flashes and night sweats.
It is hard to determine the average age at which a woman will enter this phase because some women still experience night sweats even when they are past 70 years. Life after menopause has its advantages. You will say good bye to monthly periods, heavy bleeding, hot flashes, night sweats and the other menopausal symptoms.
