Post Menopause Estrogen

Could Nolvadex or Clomid be used as a performance enhancing drug?

I understand that these drugs are used for post cycle therapy but would using them alone, without first having done a cycle of steroids, enhance strenght, muscle gains, testosterone, or lower estrogen thus resulting in gains? I am just wondering. I don't use steroids (I am not against them and I wonder why it is ok for women to use steroids for birth control/menopause but it is criminalized for men) but I just think the whole thing is very interesting. Any informative answers would be great!

Actually quite an interesting question.

Despite the raise in Testosterone caused by clomid though the answer is not really, no.

"Clomid stimulates the hypothalamus to, in turn stimulant the anterior pituitary gland (aka hypophysis) to release gonadotrophic hormones. The gonadotrophic hormones are follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH - aka interstitial cell stimulating hormone (ICSH)). FSH stimulates the testes to produce more testosterone, and LH stimulates them to secrete more testosterone. This feedback mechanism is known as the hypothalamic-pituitary-testes axis (HPTA), and results in an increase of the body's own testosterone production and blood levels rise, to, in part, compensate for the diminishing levels of exogenous steroids. This is vital to minimise post cycle muscle losses."

So, there may be a slight increase in Testosterone production in males caused by taking this drug however the body would even it out after a few days. As you obviously already know, clomids main use in the performance enhancing stakes is when used as part of Post Cycle Therapy.

Nolvadex (Tamoxifen) works by flooding eostrogen receptors in the body with itself, effectively clogging them up before any free aromatase can bind to them. Again a raise in T levels may be noted but not for long enough to be considered performance enhancing.

Your points about women using steroids is a valid one to some degree although I doubt you'd get any argument about birth control/menopause and linking them to performance enhancement to stick! Many males now are prescribed TRT (Testosterone replacement therapy) in the same way as women get HRT. Despite all the media hyped rumours about anabolic steroids (there are many types of steroids - anyone reading this use an inhaler for asthma? Then you are using a steroid), low testosterone in a male can cause lethargy, mood swings, even cancer.

Anyhow, we live in a world were the likes of Tiger Woods can have laser corrective surgery on his eyes (despite having good eyesight in the first place) so that he can see the contours of the ground even better and yet this is not considered cheating! The governor of California is a walking advertisement for steroids and yet it is illegal to even purchase a syringe there. The mind boggles.

Take a look at 'Bigger, Stronger, Faster' to have your eyes opened a little more. I'd strongly suggest anybody who is against the use of steroids do so too so as to have a little factual knowledge before regurgitating media fed rubbish.

Personally I'm very much for steroid use if done with good knowledge and planning. I'm over 40 years old and have used anabolic steroids very successfully and safely for many years now. I'm also 265lbs at 7% body fat and in better shape than anyone I know outside the sports and fitness game. Of course I could put it all down to good nutrition, training and rest but it's not. Sensible use of anabolics and other so called performance enhancing drugs have aided in making me what I am today.
