Menopause Symptoms Frequent Periods

Can anterior resection surgery be speeding my menopause?

I am 40 and had surgery in Jan 2008 for rectal cancer. (they removed 18cm of the rectum and seem to have gotten it all) I have had alot of problems with this procedure.. everything from granular tissue developing to the site continually narrowing even after the Dr. stretching.
What I am most curious about is the increase in pre-menopausal symptons. (night sweats more frequent, Hot Flashes, irratic periods). I have been experiencing some symptoms before the surgery but am finding a HUGE increase in them.
Luckily I did not require radiation. They removed the tumor and so far no further cancer has been found

Did you have radiation therapy? That can damage your ovaries, and cause sudden menopause.

Some women who have an AP resection also have their ovaries removed. If you're premenopausal, this will cause Premature Menopause.

I found a good article on the mayo clinic website, and there are more.
