Menopause Diagnosis

Feeling guilty, and the recent diagnosis of my mum?

Hi there, my mom was recently diagnosted with diabetes...we should of seen it coming as my grandfather and my uncle both had it. A couple months ago she was also diagnosed with iritis(potentially sight robbing disease; very scary) She still has the iritis however it has calmed down.

All in all, I just feel terrible for my mum. Right now she's going through a rough patch in life health wise, diabetes, menopause, iritis I mean what next right? :'( The thing is, I'm also heading to Europe in a couple months and I feel bad about the cost...a grand total of $3000 dollars. I decided to go before all these diseases were dianosed and I can't help but feel that the money should be going towards my mum's medication instead...I wanted to look for a job to cover the costs as I just turned 16, but I can barely handle my school work right now : I also feel that I should be there for her especially during these tough times. What should I do?

At your age, your heart is dying to be in Europe. It is a normal feeling and I understand that. However, You must follow your heart. I don't want to make you feel guilty or anything but when time passes and she is no longer in this earth, you might feel the consequences of the choice you made today. I am 48 years old and I am so lucky to have my mom and dad both age 87 with us still. Every day is a gift to have them around. I will do anything for those two beautiful old folks. I know that when the day comes and they have to pass, I will be happy that I was there for them each day and did everything a daughter should do for their parents. I will not feel bad that at some point I should have done this or that. You sound like somebody that has been raised the right way, because you are so young and are showing concern for feeling selfish. Your mom is probably so good to you that she would not want for you to miss that trip. You must follow your heart and think that you have your whole life ahead of you to do many things in life. Enjoy your parents while you have them, treasure them and you will have no regrets the day that they leave this world.
Good luck!
