How To Lose Menopause Fat

Is it really hard for a 51 year old woman to lose weight?

I'm not 51, but my mother is. She currently weighs close to 300 lbs. right now I believe, and she's about 5'5'' - 5' 6''. She just went through menopause this year(not sure if that's a factor..that's why I am asking). She eats fattening food all the time. She's always eating takeout, and never exercises. She complains that her back hurts, and that she can't breathe. (I think she acts over-dramatic sometimes, because I know how she is.) She can't even take a five minute walk without complaining. She sits on the couch all day watching tv, and complains. How is she supposed to lose weight? She complains healthy food tastes bad. Having a miserable person around me all day makes me miserable. This may sound like I hate her or something, but I don't. She's not really wide. A lot of the fat is in her stomach. Her legs seem kind of muscular, but still fat. Any tips to help her lose weight?

I think the most important thing for her to do would be to first change her diet. People who gain most of their fat around their stomach have a greater risk of developing cardiovascular problems, and eating a fatty diet will only make this worse. Especially since she's older, diet is so important! As you age, your metabolism slows down dramatically so more fat will be stored as fat instead of being burned as energy. My mom is overweight too, due to past and present medical conditions, but she's managed to start losing weight by going for walks everyday and eating healthier. She also drinks a lot of water, which is a natural hunger suppressor and flushes out toxins.
Healthy food doesn't have to taste bad! It's just a matter of how you cook it. Baking is better than frying, and you can get low-calorie choices that still taste great.
I wish I could help more, but attitude also plays a huge part and I think your mom needs to realize how she's putting herself at risk first and how it will effect you and others before she will change.
