High Prolactin Menopause
TTC #2 High level of FSH - 22?
I'm 30 years old and have been ttc #2 since Feb 08. I had my first son in Oct 06 after ttc for 1 year. I've just come back from the fertility specialist with some results that i'm told are not good. My fsh level was 22. At the same time my prolactin was 10 ug/L and luteinizing was 17 u/l. My cycles can range anywhere between 30 - 40ish days but did go through a phase of where it was 45 - 60 for about 6-7 months. The specialist has said my chances of conceiving are slim to say the best and said with my fsh at 22 it's like i'm almost going in to menopause. He sent me for another blood test to make sure the results were correct. Does anyone have advice or been in a similar situation which may give me some hope? My last Af was on June 19. The blood work was done on the 30th June. Thanks.
Hi there I had some blood tests as premature ovarian failure (early menopause) runs in my female line and I am TTC and although only 28 my body is physiologically more like that of a 34/35 year old woman. I remember reading about FSH and LH results before I had my results back and yes 22 for and FSH would suggest what is called the peri-menopause as anything higher than 13 is not good as they are very hard to stimulate. That said there is drugs you can take and as you have probably a few years of fertility left all is not lost yet but I would suggest that you do not waste any time and have IVF as soon as you can if they can harvest enough eggs for this. You are still in with a chance do not give up hope. Its just going to be very hard that is all. IVF is a emotionally draining thing and you will need lots of support around you but if you really want another baby it is worth considering but remember after five tries of IVF the odds of you then having a pregnancy become very very low so personally I would not have more than this. Thankfully you did not wait around before you had your first child as many women do (myself included) and its something you live to regret when fertility becomes an issue. I feel for you I really do as I also know I am set to have the menopause myself within a few years time. I hope that you are able to have a second child and do let me know how you get on if you manage it as my situation is not so different to yours. Good Luck and stay strong. xx
