Female Hormones Perimenopause

Question about my menstrual cycle?

I am a 37-year-old female. My periods last only 18 to 24 hours now (previously lasted two days or so). My gyn thinks I'm starting to go through perimenopause.

At any rate, here's the question: In the past year, it seems as if eight to ten hours before I start my period (like CLOCKWORK), I become suicidally depressed and extremely tearful and can't control my crying. Is this because my hormones are dipping at this time? Used to not be like this.

Wow!!! That is terrible!! Sounds to me like it certainly has something to do with hormones since your hormones drop right before you start your period. If you are feeling that depressed please talk to your dr about it. You can be put on some kind of medication to help with it. I don't know if it will be birth control pills to level out hormones or actual antidepressants. I've taken antidepressants for many, many years and I can not tell you how much better I feel, but I suffer from straight depression, not hormonal issues.

Start with giving your ob/gyn a call and let them know how depressed you are feeling. They will certainly want to help you. PLEASE get help!! I wish I hadn't waited so long to get help!!

Good luck to you!
