Does A Hysterectomy Stop Menopause
Im panicing My question is about hysterectomy?
I saw my consultant yesterday about my prolapse and he tried me with a coil last year because of severe symptoms with my period. Since my prolapse the symptoms have come back he told me yesterday he was going to start me on injections to stop my hormones and periods and also asked me if I would mind having hysterectomy, my mum says he is getting my body ready for the op so that when he takes everything away I dont get really bad menopause etc. Has anyone else had this done to them is it normal to stop your hormones before having a hysterectomy? im only 32. Any insight or advice would be great.
My hysterectomy was done at the age of 26, I did not have my hormones stopped. I had my ovaries left in, which were later removed at the age of 36. I had an implant at the time of surgery to replace the hormones that my ovaries would have produced naturally. That lasted for six months and I was given the option of having another implant which meant another incision and I didn't feel I wanted to go through with those every six months. So I chose to be on estrofem in tablet form. I am 48 years old now, and have recently asked my GP about being able to come of them She says no, that a woman should be on them till they reach the age of 54 or thereabouts. I totally understand your anxieties, as it is a major operation and a big decision for you to make. I have to say, once I recovered from the surgery, I was 100% better! I have other issues now, unfortunately, as I am now told 26 was really far too young, but I had no choice in the matter. Hope I have been of some help and comfort to you. Take Care.
